This section of my web site is intended to keep people informed of my life at Rocky Hill and the great work the students are doing here.

My Reflections on Teaching
I enjoy teaching because it gives me the opportunity to share my love of ceramics with my students, and get them as excited about clay as I am. For many of them it is their first experience with clay. I am fascinated at the imaginations of my students, and nothing makes me happier then to see a student get totally infatuated and excited about working with clay. Working with clay has a therapeutic quality to it. It is tactile, you are touching, feeling, and molding it into something. It has a way of turning off your mind and turning on your heart, that is why time seems to stand still when you are working with it. With all the machine made things in the world today people are looking for the characteristics of handcrafts because by their very nature they provide a direct link to the human heart. My energy is contagious in the classroom and the students seem to feed off that and get inspired to take risks. My students are always looking me, seeing how I do things. How I throw, trim, glaze, or roll out a slab. For the students to be excited about their work, I have to be excited about my work, their work, what I’m teaching, and about the medium of clay in general.
